Come join me and see....TAIWAN!!

From june 27th to July 10th I spent two fabulous weeks with two of my best friends, Jamie and Milana, in Taiwan's capital: Taipei (where Jamie was born).
Of course, I took LOADS of pictures.
To see them in chronological order, you have to start at the bottom and then scroll up.
Take a look around and enjoy a foreign country which is so different from Europe and so exciting!!

And, last but not least, this picture was taken in Danshuei and shows a really wonderful view!! *sigh* I will definitely return!!

This is the street we lived in (my friend's flat is in one of the tall buildings on the right side).

This is the Memorial Hall. Inside, there is a statue of Chang Kai-Shek on a red carpet and the ceiling shows a white sun (the taiwanese flag also shows a white sun on a red background).

Here we are in front of the gate to the Chiang Kai-Shek (founder of Taiwan) Memorial Hall. There is a huge place and around it there are the National Theater, the National Concert Hall and the Memorial Hall itself. It is really amazing because everything is just so HUGE.

HAHAHA I'll never forget this^^ We made a "who-finds-the-most-horrible-shirt-contest" and this was the winner...OMG it is SO terrible...

In Jiou Fen we went to a little restaurant with a really crazy owner...she put pictures of herself like EVERYWHERE in her restaurant, so that every inch is covered with her (ugly) face...I felt like going to her, saying "I think I've seen you somewhere before..." LOL

This is another village in the mountains, Jiou Fen. You can see the seaside from up there and because of the mist, the colours get lighter the further they are. It is really beautiful ~

Jamie's cousins Amy and Tina with umbrellas. They used them to protect themselves from the SUN...what almost all of the women in Taiwan do, because they don't want to get tan. It was so funny haha^^

One day, we went to Wulai, a village in the mountains with a river, in which we took a little "bath" (actually we splashed water at each other because it was REALLY hot. It was always REALLY hot, around 36° C with high humidity).

This is me in front of Taipei 101, the highest building of the world (up until now)!!! It is 508 meters high and every night it's lighted up in a different way. We didn't climb up to the top actually but it is also amazing to look at it from the ground (you can't even see the top when you're right in front of it)!!

Here we (that is: Milana, Jamie, her cousin Amy and me) are in front of the Long Shan Temple, which is soooo beautiful!! And they have interesting rituals there, like, you can ask questions and get an answer on a piece of paper in a certain box (it is complicated). I love Temples ~~

Most of the big roads look like that, they're full of neon signs, cars and people (asian people, there are very few tourists...Milana and me were like an attraction and sometimes people even stared at us^^)

Footnote: McDonalds is everywhere...

Jamie's friends drove us to the museum on motorcycles. It was the first time for Milana and me on a motorcycle, so we were pretty excited. And it was really FUN!! I wanna take a ride again...><
It seems like everybody in Taipei is riding motorcycles, because they are like EVERYWHERE...

On our first real day in Taipei, we visited the National Museum of Taiwan, where they have the treasures they once stole from China haha^^ But we only saw replicas there. I like the portal in front of it! In taiwanese architecture, important buildings always have a gate in the front. Posted by Picasa

This is the Sun Square, our favourite shopping street in Taipei. The things are ridiculously cheap there!! You can buy shirts (which are sold in a big bunch on a table) for 2,50 Euro and shoes for 10! So we spent pretty much time there... Posted by Picasa

The first thing we did after we arrived (after 4 hours in a train, 14 hours in a plane and 1 hour in a bus =_=), was sleeping! Then we went to a nearby shopping center where we took this picture^^ Posted by Picasa
